Abstract
The seminar involves 75 minutes of presentation with integrated discussion. I focus on how the tariff-growth paradox for the first globalization vanishes once we distinguish between political tariff changes and market-induced tariff changes in price and composition. I also take the time to explain the sources and data harmonization thoroughly.
